Toe Jam

How much do I really need my pinky toe? I'm getting so angry with it that I just might cut it off. In the past six months I have stubbed my pinky toe too many times to count, twice resulting in my toenail breaking completely off. Well, just the other night, I stubbed it again. At the time, I thought I may have broken it because it was swollen, turning different colors, and extremely painful for two days, but now it's just bruised and only hurts on occasion, so maybe it's just jammed. (Don't think for a minute that before I blogged about this I didn't think "who cares about my toe?" I did, but after having blogged about it twice before, I just couldn't not inform you. Couldn't not!!!)

I was looking on the internet, trying to find out if the pinky toe is important... and I came across this:

"Does your pinky toe look crooked? Does it curl under-neath your other toes? Is there a nasty-looking corn on your pinky toe? Does it hurt when you wear shoes? Is your pinky toe keeping you from wearing the kind of shoes you love? If any of these answers are "Yes" then the Pinky Toe Tuck may be just the procedure for you."

Interesting stuff!!

In other news, last night was Jack's first night in his room. He's been in our room since he was born. You may laugh when you hear that I cried a little when I left him. Laugh... but, you would cry to if it happened to you.

And now I'm going to leave you with a picture of Jack and his great grandfather, "so our meeting here could have a little focus." Also, this weekend "someone" gave me a hard time about not posting enough pictures of Jack.

So there!

"Why am I so big... and you're so small?"

Today Jack experienced his first visit to College Station. He got to meet duplies and eat at bird (indirectly, of course).

The cutest part of the day was seeing Jack next to Chloe (Jenna's best friend's dog). Chloe is part chihuahua, part rat terrier-- the smallest dog I'v ever seen. When I got Jack to go to sleep, I realized that Chloe was also asleep, so I put them together, and what have you got?

I wish I was eating that Sour Patch Kid right now.

I love these commercials, and you should too. (Go to TV spots.)

I feel like such a lame blogger. I've just been blogging videos or pictures. At least when I was working, I had boredom to inspire me. Now I don't have time, so I just crap out. Oh well. At least I blog. So there! Man, once I vowed i would end all my blogs with "so there!" I'm sad that never caught on.

(As I type this, I am looking at my son, who is sleeping on his stomach with his butt up in the air... oh, i must photoblog this. Hold on...)

So there!

Hehe, Toe-fu.

Here is yet another video of Jack. I know you can't get enough.

Aubrey Reneé Silverthorne

That is my newest niece, Aubrey. She is awesome. Here she is with her cousin Alyse who preceded her by less than two weeks. She too is awesome. Together they are too awesome, and too cute.

**A picture of the cousins three has yet to be taken. I will post it when I can.

...he lead the others with a "quack, quack, quack."

This is Jack's new thing: sticking his tongue out. He has been doing it randomly for a while now, but recently he has started sticking his tongue out basically every time he smiles. I think it may be because he just grew a new tooth, which is on the bottom next to his first two. Anyhow, it's pretty cute.

This blog is mainly serving as an update on Jack. He's sticking his tongue out, he just cut a new tooth, he now weighs 17 lbs 6 oz, and is 25 3/4 inches long. He just (and I mean today) started really jumping in his Jumperoo (i'll be posting a video soon.)

We got back the other day from visiting our sweet little niece Alyse ( i love that those words rhyme.) It was neat seeing the two little cousins together-- and seeing Andrea, about to pop with the third little cousin. It was cool because after we left Longview, we stopped in Nacogdoches to see the Gunters, and it was so cute because Andy (now two years old)was making Jack laugh so hard-- harder than I've ever heard him laugh. It got me really excited about seeing Jack with his little cousins when they are old enough to laugh. For some reason babies like to look at other babies. It's almost like Jack felt like he finally had a friend who could understand him.
So yeah, I'm really excited about the three cousins hanging out. And with that, I'll leave you with this picture of Jack trying to figure out what Alyse is all about.

Son, you got a panty on your head.

Having a father like Jeremy, Jack was bound to have a picture taken like this eventually.

Niece Alyse

(I love this picture.)

I'm very proud to have Alyse as my niece, and Jack is very pleased to FINALLY have a cousin. Geez, he's been waiting his whole life for this. The whole four months of his life.

It's fun!!!!

This commercial came on one day while I was cleaning-- and I had to stop what I was doing and hit record (God bless you, Tivo.)

A combination of enthusiastic, and somewhat scary children and random close-ups makes this commercial worthy of YouTube.

I do tube.

TOE NO!!

Well, it happened again. I hit my freakin' toe on my freakin' pantry door! Ouch. Much more painful than before. Bye bye little toenail. I took a picture but it's much too gross for posting.

On a happier note, I get to meet my first niece tomorrow....sweet.

Jack don't roll that way.

As you all know, Jack has become quite the little rollin' baby. I was looking up info on baby development yesterday, and made a shocking discovery. Jack started rolling around 3 1/2 months-- and that is normal, even a little earlier than most babies. The shocking thing is that most babies first learn to roll from tummy to back first-- and then later (maybe five to six months of age)will learn to roll from back to tummy. But that is the only way Jack rolls. Normally I would think this is due to Jack's super baby intelligence, but since he only knows how to roll back to tummy, I think his mind just works differently than most babies...or maybe he just likes being different...or maybe he's just rebellious-- like he only rolls onto his stomach because I put him on his back. Maybe I should try to use a little reverse psychology. Perhaps if I put him on his stomach he'll be like "what? lady, I don't want to be on my stomach!" Anyway, he gets pretty tired when he is on his stomach for too long-- but it's funny because I'll roll him over onto his back and he'll just roll back over to his stomach and start crying. Crazy kid. Anyhow, just wanted to update you all... he's still awesome. Duh.

That's right, woodchuck-chuckers, it's GROUNDHOG DAY!

Not only is today Groundhog Day, but it also marks the one year mark of us finding out we were pregnant.

So here's to you, Jack. And here's to you, Phil.

This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off, waiting to worship a rat. You know, Groundhog Day used to mean something in this town. They used to pull the hog out and they used to eat it. You're hypocrites. All a ya.

Keep them froggies movin'

Jack shows off his impressive new ability... and also his cute frog outfit.

**As Jeremy pointed out, I am particularly fond of this outfit because of how much it makes Jack look like this little guy:

"I don't like funerals."

A lot of people say that, but I can't think of a time where it was ever in question.

"So, do you like funerals?"
"Oh yeah! Funerals ROCK!"

Jeremy said he didn't like funerals in a conversation we had the other day. I kind of laughed and said "um, do you know anyone who does?" He was like "oh, right."

"I have an excellent idea. Let's change the subject!!!"

I'm feeling a lot better about my guess at Alyse's birth day. For a while I thought that there was no way she'd be born on February 1st, since Charlotte has seemed so close for so long. Now I'm feeling very, very, very, very, very, very, very optimistic. Oh man, if she has Alyse on the second, I hope she doesn't have a Phil Connors experience. Ouch.

Baby, slow down.

Jack is growing like crazy. He's learning how to do all sorts of things. He's now able to stand for a really long time with just us holding his hands, and that's pretty much just for balance. He has been learning how to roll over. He's been figuring out how to hold things with two hands. I guess he's gotten a lot bigger, but it's hard for me to notice since I'm with him all the time. Anyhow, he's pretty awesome. I plan to post video and pictures soon so don't you worry. Just wanted to post since I haven't blogged about any of his new talents.

I typed that paragraph earlier this morning, and already Jack has rolled over (what I believe to be on-purpose-roll-overs) several times since. Spectacular, spectacular, no words in the vernacular...

There's a hole! There's a hole! There's a hole in the middle of my yard.

A Sprint man rang my doorbell at 8:30 this morning. He says that when they put the water lines in they messed up the phone lines. He points to a spray painted red x on my front lawn and says that he'll need to dig a hole there, but not to worry because it will look just like normal when he finishes-- naturally I imagined a small hole.

At 9:30 I need to go to the mailbox, so I peak out my front window to see if he is still there. At first I don't see him, I just see this bright blue hole digging contraption in my yard. Then I spot him-- his head and shoulders peaking out of a gargantuan hole. He dug a hole big enough to stand in.

I decided that when I went to the mailbox I would snap a shot with my camera phone for you to enjoy.

Vexation, thy name is UPS.

"Don't ya put it in your mouth..."

Oh, sorry. that song kind of sticks.

Where was I? Oh yes. I hate UPS. "HATE 'EM!"

Here's the skinny. Jeremy and I ordered a laptop from Dell. On the UPS website it said that the expected date of arrival was January 11th. So on January 10th, I wasn't expecting it to arrive and went to hang out with Jenna for a few hours(watching this movie). When I came home there was a little yellow sticker on my door saying that UPS had already come. I was a little frustrated about this because I knew Jeremy would want the laptop that day. So I sheepishly called Jeremy and told him the news. "It says they'll be here tomorrow from 2:00-5:00, so I'll make sure and be here then." So, the next day comes and I am running a couple of errands with my mother-in-law-- when we realize "oh, it's almost 2:00. We'd better go back." So we get back to my house at 2:10-- thinking "well, I'm sure he hasn't been here in the past ten minutes." Lo and behold, another yellow sticker on my door.

10:30-2:00 OR 2:00-5:00? Whaaaaaa?

So I'm really mad at myself right now-- thinking "who would have thought he'd be here between 2:00 and 2:10?" I call Jeremy all sheepishly again, apologizing for being 10 minutes late. He's a little frustrated, but not mad. He tries to call UPS to see if he can pick it up when he gets off work. In the meantime, I'm having a sneaking suspicion that UPS got to my house outside the promised time. Here's what I find on their website:

01/11/2006 12:59 P.M. THE RECEIVER WAS NOT AVAILABLE TO SIGN ON THE 2ND DELIVERY ATTEMPT. A 3RD DELIVERY ATTEMPT WILL BE MADE.

You may have noticed that 12:59 is NOT between 2:00 and 5:00.

Ok, so Jeremy lets me know that he isn't going to pick up the package, so I'll need to be at home on Thursday from 10:30-5:00.

I had a couple of things I wanted to pick up for my sister's baby shower that's on Saturday, but I didn't go before 10:30 in case they came early again. My thought process was "well, they came early yesterday, so they'll probably get here sometime around 11:00 or so, and THEN I'll get the stuff for Andrea's shower." So, I wait. I don't stay upstairs in case he doesn't knock, I don't take a shower or play any remotely loud music in case I can't hear him. 10:30....11:30.........2:30........4:30..(they better hurry)..5:00. No UPS. Jeremy gets home around 6:00. Still no UPS. Then at 6:30..."DING-DONG." Jeremy answers the door to find the stupid UPS man in his stupid brown UPS uniform. Jeremy politely signs for the package, and the UPS man doesn't even hand him the package. He just leaves it sitting on the front porch and just walks away. No niceties, no nothin' (a fitting end to this whole ordeal.)

You took a whole day of my life, UPS, and I want it back! "Oh, i probably would have wasted it anyway."

On a happier note, look how awesome my son is:

(I had to neutralize the negativity of this post so you guys would come back.)

And that's the tooth.

It's definitely not surprising, since the boy is already so big, but Jack cut his first two teeth just shy of his 3 month old mark... which is TODAY! (happy 3rd month mark, Jack.) Poor little guy. Watch this video to hear the complaints of a teether.

In other news, Jack is still as awesome as ever. In fact, more awesome! He's been a lot more vocal, he's been kicking more and playing with his hands, a couple of days ago he started making noise with his spit, which is pretty sweet. But I think that my favorite new thing he does is when he hold one fist straight in the air as though he's saying "onward!"

I hope that one day I can catch a picture of him in the rare 2 fist pose, because he looks like he's trying to fly like superman.

Well, I have been eating more.

When Jack was in my tummy, I called him "Jelly Bean", so I bought this shirt. Now that he's here, the shirt seems wrong since he's so huge. I wonder if they have one that says "Mommy's little butterball."

Nah. He'll always be my little jelly bean.

Laughin' Jack

Well, yesterday Jack laughed for the first time-- and thanks to technology and my husband, I'm able to share his 4th and 5th laughs with you. He hasn't gotten really good at it yet, but what he can do is pretty cute. (Don't mind my quacking.)

Baby mine, dry your eyes.

This scene made me cry before I had Jack, so I should probably avoid watching it now.

Jack es muy grande

14 lbs. 14 1/4 oz. & 25 inches long.

It turns out that Jack is in the 95 percentile for both weight and length. This means Jack is bigger than over 95% of babies his age. Andrew's right. He's kicking all the other babies butts. Well, except for that freakish 5%.

Jack had his 2 month appointment today. He had to get 4 shots-- and two of those shots were doubled up with two vaccinations-- so really he had 6 shots. Poor little guy. He cried, I cried, it was all very sad. But the good news is he's got some kickin' bandaids on his chubby little legs (Wile E. Coyote and Daffy Duck.) Also, today was a first for Jack-- he tasted something other than milk! Grape flavored Infant Tylenol. Mmmm! He did really well with it-- didn't spit it out or anything. He just swallowed it and sort of made this face like "what just happened?"

Here's another picture for your viewing pleasure:

What's the perfect gift for anyone on your Christmas list?

A Houston Garden Center gift card!! What? That's what the commercial says.

Well two nights ago, we finally decorated our Christmas tree. That is so unlike me. I'm usually a day-after-Thanksgiving-tree-putter-upper. Not this year. No sir. December 6th. I'm ashamed.

I thought this was kind of neat:

Both Jeremy and Jack's first Christmas ornaments. Neat! I also think it's neat that Jeremy and Jack are a quarter of a century apart.

In other news, I got a new cell phone and Jack outgrew most of his 0-3 month onesies.

Note: I may return my new phone because the camera sucks, and Jack isn't even two months old yet (picture is to show Jacks hugeness.)

And that was taken Thanksgiving weekend. I'm taking him to his two month appointment on Monday, and I'm curious to see if his doctor is shocked by how big he is. I'm sure she won't be, but I keep thinking she's going to think I'm adding steroids to his milk.

Grow, Jack, grow!

What's a Jack Butler?

Oh, about 12 an a half pounds.

That's right. Jack has become quite the little chunk. 12 1/2 pounds at 6 weeks.

Today is a big day for Jack-- his first road trip. We'll see how this goes.

Game, Set, Flush.

Well, the toilet won. I thought my phone would conquer, but I was wrong. If you try and call my phone, I will not answer-- b/c even though I can hear you, you cannot hear me. The good news is I can still send pictures like this one:

Anyhow, I will be using Jeremy's phone until December, which is when I qualify for a free new phone. So if you want to reach me call Jeremy's phone. If you want to reach me, but don't know his number, then call my phone and leave a message. If you don't want to reach me, then bite me.

p.s. I really wanted to come up with some clever variant of the old "calling ralph" line as my subject for this post, but I couldn't think of anything. Oh man, that would have been so clever. Drat. I just wanted to let you all know that I wanted to be clever, and, if you ask me, wanting to be clever is pretty close to being clever.

I hear my baby, I gotta go.
