Naked babies, runnin' around Wal-Mart...

Well we're here. In Colorado. It's pretty strange. We are living in a hotel right now because it's gonna take a week for the movers to get here with our stuff. It's difficult taking care of Jack in a hotel because of naps and things, but it will be over in a week.

This town is surprisingly ugly. The towns surrounding it are very pretty and green, but Brighton.. not so much. It's just a dinky little town.

I took this picture from our hotel window, but it's zoomed in quite a bit.

Here are a few Brighton tidbits for you:

There are there a lot of hicks!
There are a couple of weird roundabouts.
We've discovered a good hamburger place called Good Times. It's pretty delicious.

I don't really have anything else to report on this town, but I'll keep you updated.

In Jack news, he's still awesome! I offer some pictures as proof.

I'm sure you are confused by that last picture. No, Jack has not learned how to chew and blow bubble gum. That's just me blowing a bubble and putting it up to his mouth. Tricky, no? The reason for me blowing bubble gum in Jack's face was to make him laugh. I hope to you tube a video of him laughing at my bubble blowing soon. He thinks it's hilarious.

I guess that's all for now.

Lame post, I know, but I don't care. Jack pictures make everything better.

Such Sweet Sorrow

Well, it's time. Time for me to shake off the dust of this one-horse town... oh wait... I'm GOING to a one-horse town. My mistake.

I'm tired and have a lot to do but before I leave I wanted to make my last Texas post (for a while anyway). If I had more time I would go on and on about how awesome Texas is and how of course we will come back after a couple of years because it's just that awesome and I will never have Colorado loyalty, and if I have my next child in Colorado, I will LIE to him/her and say that he/she was indeed born in TEXAS. Yes I would say all that but I don't have time!! Must go!! Must pack!! No time for dilly- dallying!!

Anyhow, I don't want to get all mushy, so I'll let the Muppets do it for me.

Amy from Texas, out.

"Looky what he can do!"

Jack decided that just climbing around our downstairs wasn't enough. The other day, on his own accord, Jack crawled to the stairs and started going up. This video shows his third attempt at climbing the stairs, and it saddens me because of how much more impressive his second try was. I was behind him and he didn't even have a toy enticing him...just the thrill of adventure, I suppose. I followed him up to the landing and then he decided on his own that he wanted to go to the top. It's nice knowing that we are moving so we don't have to worry about him climbing up those stairs. Kind of scary.

You may be confused that we are still in our house. Yes, I am too. I'm sure Jeremy will tell us all about it soon, so I won't bother with it here. Suffice it to say that due to some seriously half-assed HR work, he won't be starting for several days... but I don't talk about that.

Hope you enjoyed Jack's impressive new ability.

G'night!

Emotionally edited

You already know this, but I'll type it anyway so this post can have a little focus.

We're moving. To Colorado. Jeremy got a job there and starts on June 1st. This week will be extremely crazy, so I wanted to take a moment to blog in case I can't before we leave.

Jack is crawling around like crazy. He has learned how to pull himself up into standing position.

This means it's gotten really hard to get him to go to sleep, because he'll just stand in his crib crying. It's really sad. Last night and today he fell asleep in this position when he finally gave up:

I guess all the video will have to wait because I just don't have time to post it.

I will leave you with a few pictures.

Jack from our trip to Crystal Beach:

(this picture reminded me of an album cover really badly, but I couldn't think which one. Fortunately Jeremy knew what I was talking about.)

Here's our first family picture since right after Jack was born:

Andrea and Aubrey are visiting us now. Here are some pretty cute pictures of the two cousins beating each other up:

That's all for now. There's a lot to be said about the moving situation, but I'm not much on emotional blogging.

So excuse me while I kiss the sky.

Looks just like me

Because of a certain bossy reader, I have decided to post a video.

The other day we were at Kick's-- and he has one of those mirror sliding door closets in his apartment and Jack was having a lot of fun looking at himself in the mirror . We wanted to get Jack to reenact this, but he was much too interested in the camera. Observe.

Beware the lethal Jack bite

Ok, so maybe not "lethal", but definitely painful. Here's a picture of Jack about to take a bite outta his dad's leg. The bad thing about him having so many teeth at such an early age is that he doesn't yet understand "no!" Anyhow, it's pretty terrifying, so watch out.

Today Jack is 7 months old! And to mark his 7 month mark, he started pulling himself up onto his knees if he's in his bed or something. If you hold your hand out he can grab it and pull himself up into a standing position. It's neat watching him grow up and learn how to do things. He seems to get really excited when he learns new things... and who could blame him? I'm sure it was annoying not being able to move around-- now he's able to go places and climb over things. Pretty neat.

Well, Jack is about to go to the beach for the first time, so stay tuned for some really sweet pictures.

Jack bleeds Cardinal red.

I don't know about this, Daddy.

Jack got all decked out in his Cardinals outfit, only to be told he couldn't go with his daddy and PopPop to the game.

Where are my floaties?

Jack dons his fancy new swim trunks that were purchased for his first trip to the beach.

Thanks to Bryan and Andrea, you can now enjoy pictures like this on a regular basis. They gave me a digital camera, so I'll be throwing more pictures of Jack at you than you could have ever wanted. And let us not forget Andrew, who supplied the USB cable.

Thank you all. You've truly made this world a better place.

May contain monkey hair.

I just got back from my Longview/Tyler trip. What should have been a 3 and 1/2 hour drive took me 5 and 1/2 hours. Great fun! To make matters worse, my lips were chapped and burning very badly. I decided that whenever Jack woke up, I would stop and get gas, Lip Medex, and some food. I ended up stopping at a little gas station outside of Lufkin. I went to the counter where a careless looking teenage girl was working.

"Do you guys have Lip Medex, or some sort of lip balm?"

"Um..." looks around behind the counter, "um....." picks up a small box, opens it up, looks at it quizzically, "we have this?"

From where I was standing it looked like it could have been a Burt's Bees product, so I said "Uh, yeah, I guess that's fine." My lips were hurting very badly, and I was in no mood to be picky.

Shortly after leaving I busted out the "balm." It smells a little too much like Icy Hot...ouch.... ouch! ....OUCH!! Must get this off of my lips!!! OH, it burns!!! I quickly grab Jack's blanket, the closest thing to me, and start rubbing like mad, trying to get this mysterious stuff off my lips. I don't know if it's possible, but my lips seemed more chapped than before I used the stuff.

Well, when I got home, I was telling Jeremy this story and showed him the "balm." I was showing him because I found it very amusing that the product had a picture of a monkey holding a peach as an emblem, and the name of the product is "White Monkey Holding Peach Balm." All the writing on the box is what I can only assume is Thai, since it is manufactured by "Monkey Holding Peach Brand Co", which is in Bangkok.

When laughing with Jeremy about this, I realized there were directions folded up inside the box:

I'm an idiot.

"For the relief of minor muscular aches and pains, insect bites, and sprain.... do not apply to irritated skin..."

You win this round, White Monkey Holding Peach!!!

This kid's going places.

He's been trying to figure out how to crawl for a week now-- and here's the first thing he's come up with.

Spherical, but quite pointy at parts.

Jack is 6 months old!

Here are some stats for your reading pleasure:

Weight: 19 lb 3 3/4 oz
Length: 27 inches
Head: 47 1/2 cm
Teeth count: 8

For his weight and length, he has gone down to the 75th percentile... but his head is in the 98th percentile. Jeremy and I got quite a kick out of that. Jeremy and I both have big noggins, so we weren't entirely surprised, but 98th percentile? Impressive. It's pretty weird because right after Jack's appointment, Jeremy and I went home and watched a Scrubs episode where Dr. Cox is comparing his son (also named "Jack") with his friends son, and it's almost creepy what they were talking about seeing as how it was just after our appointment. See for yourself.

Ron: You know, uh, Nathan is actually in the 90th percentile in height.

Dr. Cox: Jack's only in the 85th.

Ron: Aw.

Dr. Cox: Of course, he's in the 99th for head size.

Ron: Congratulations. Your son's the Hamburglar.

Dr. Cox: Head size is directly related to intelligence.

Ron: [Eying Jack uncertainly] Really?

While young Nathan builds a tower with the blocks, Jack sits with the bucket on his head.

I looked over at Jeremy and said "Oh no! Jack's the Hamburglar!" I thought it was funny until Jeremy pointed out that the Hamburglar doesn't particularly have a large head. It's big, but I was thinking he had a hamburger for a head. Does anyone know who the hamburger head was? Anyhow, I suspect that the Scrubs' writers were thinking of the same guy.

When searching for a picture of the hamburger head man, I came across some other McDonalds pictures, and decided to post them.

Parents, don't let this happen to your kid. It starts with this.

Toe Jam

How much do I really need my pinky toe? I'm getting so angry with it that I just might cut it off. In the past six months I have stubbed my pinky toe too many times to count, twice resulting in my toenail breaking completely off. Well, just the other night, I stubbed it again. At the time, I thought I may have broken it because it was swollen, turning different colors, and extremely painful for two days, but now it's just bruised and only hurts on occasion, so maybe it's just jammed. (Don't think for a minute that before I blogged about this I didn't think "who cares about my toe?" I did, but after having blogged about it twice before, I just couldn't not inform you. Couldn't not!!!)

I was looking on the internet, trying to find out if the pinky toe is important... and I came across this:

"Does your pinky toe look crooked? Does it curl under-neath your other toes? Is there a nasty-looking corn on your pinky toe? Does it hurt when you wear shoes? Is your pinky toe keeping you from wearing the kind of shoes you love? If any of these answers are "Yes" then the Pinky Toe Tuck may be just the procedure for you."

Interesting stuff!!

In other news, last night was Jack's first night in his room. He's been in our room since he was born. You may laugh when you hear that I cried a little when I left him. Laugh... but, you would cry to if it happened to you.

And now I'm going to leave you with a picture of Jack and his great grandfather, "so our meeting here could have a little focus." Also, this weekend "someone" gave me a hard time about not posting enough pictures of Jack.

So there!

"Why am I so big... and you're so small?"

Today Jack experienced his first visit to College Station. He got to meet duplies and eat at bird (indirectly, of course).

The cutest part of the day was seeing Jack next to Chloe (Jenna's best friend's dog). Chloe is part chihuahua, part rat terrier-- the smallest dog I'v ever seen. When I got Jack to go to sleep, I realized that Chloe was also asleep, so I put them together, and what have you got?

I wish I was eating that Sour Patch Kid right now.

I love these commercials, and you should too. (Go to TV spots.)

I feel like such a lame blogger. I've just been blogging videos or pictures. At least when I was working, I had boredom to inspire me. Now I don't have time, so I just crap out. Oh well. At least I blog. So there! Man, once I vowed i would end all my blogs with "so there!" I'm sad that never caught on.

(As I type this, I am looking at my son, who is sleeping on his stomach with his butt up in the air... oh, i must photoblog this. Hold on...)

So there!

Hehe, Toe-fu.

Here is yet another video of Jack. I know you can't get enough.

Aubrey Reneé Silverthorne

That is my newest niece, Aubrey. She is awesome. Here she is with her cousin Alyse who preceded her by less than two weeks. She too is awesome. Together they are too awesome, and too cute.

**A picture of the cousins three has yet to be taken. I will post it when I can.

...he lead the others with a "quack, quack, quack."

This is Jack's new thing: sticking his tongue out. He has been doing it randomly for a while now, but recently he has started sticking his tongue out basically every time he smiles. I think it may be because he just grew a new tooth, which is on the bottom next to his first two. Anyhow, it's pretty cute.

This blog is mainly serving as an update on Jack. He's sticking his tongue out, he just cut a new tooth, he now weighs 17 lbs 6 oz, and is 25 3/4 inches long. He just (and I mean today) started really jumping in his Jumperoo (i'll be posting a video soon.)

We got back the other day from visiting our sweet little niece Alyse ( i love that those words rhyme.) It was neat seeing the two little cousins together-- and seeing Andrea, about to pop with the third little cousin. It was cool because after we left Longview, we stopped in Nacogdoches to see the Gunters, and it was so cute because Andy (now two years old)was making Jack laugh so hard-- harder than I've ever heard him laugh. It got me really excited about seeing Jack with his little cousins when they are old enough to laugh. For some reason babies like to look at other babies. It's almost like Jack felt like he finally had a friend who could understand him.
So yeah, I'm really excited about the three cousins hanging out. And with that, I'll leave you with this picture of Jack trying to figure out what Alyse is all about.

Son, you got a panty on your head.

Having a father like Jeremy, Jack was bound to have a picture taken like this eventually.

Niece Alyse

(I love this picture.)

I'm very proud to have Alyse as my niece, and Jack is very pleased to FINALLY have a cousin. Geez, he's been waiting his whole life for this. The whole four months of his life.

It's fun!!!!

This commercial came on one day while I was cleaning-- and I had to stop what I was doing and hit record (God bless you, Tivo.)

A combination of enthusiastic, and somewhat scary children and random close-ups makes this commercial worthy of YouTube.

I do tube.

TOE NO!!

Well, it happened again. I hit my freakin' toe on my freakin' pantry door! Ouch. Much more painful than before. Bye bye little toenail. I took a picture but it's much too gross for posting.

On a happier note, I get to meet my first niece tomorrow....sweet.

Jack don't roll that way.

As you all know, Jack has become quite the little rollin' baby. I was looking up info on baby development yesterday, and made a shocking discovery. Jack started rolling around 3 1/2 months-- and that is normal, even a little earlier than most babies. The shocking thing is that most babies first learn to roll from tummy to back first-- and then later (maybe five to six months of age)will learn to roll from back to tummy. But that is the only way Jack rolls. Normally I would think this is due to Jack's super baby intelligence, but since he only knows how to roll back to tummy, I think his mind just works differently than most babies...or maybe he just likes being different...or maybe he's just rebellious-- like he only rolls onto his stomach because I put him on his back. Maybe I should try to use a little reverse psychology. Perhaps if I put him on his stomach he'll be like "what? lady, I don't want to be on my stomach!" Anyway, he gets pretty tired when he is on his stomach for too long-- but it's funny because I'll roll him over onto his back and he'll just roll back over to his stomach and start crying. Crazy kid. Anyhow, just wanted to update you all... he's still awesome. Duh.

That's right, woodchuck-chuckers, it's GROUNDHOG DAY!

Not only is today Groundhog Day, but it also marks the one year mark of us finding out we were pregnant.

So here's to you, Jack. And here's to you, Phil.

This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off, waiting to worship a rat. You know, Groundhog Day used to mean something in this town. They used to pull the hog out and they used to eat it. You're hypocrites. All a ya.

Keep them froggies movin'

Jack shows off his impressive new ability... and also his cute frog outfit.

**As Jeremy pointed out, I am particularly fond of this outfit because of how much it makes Jack look like this little guy:
